Free Help with Learning
Volunteer Tutor Program for Canadian and ESL Learners
Adults who are 19 and over can work with a free volunteer tutor once a week to achieve a learning goal. This goal could range from improving basic reading, writing, or math skills, to learning to use computers or tablets. Most tutor and learner matches are one to one, but we sometimes offer group sessions. We also run basic computer classes for seniors based on volunteer availability. Tutors are available to work alongside learners who are in upgrading classes or working towards their Adult Dogwood.
Tutors have access to a wide variety of teaching materials available through our lending library. The library can be viewed here.
For more information, or to volunteer, please contact program coordinator Kathy Ball at email@example.com.
Free training sessions for volunteer tutors are usually held each spring and fall.
English Second Language Services
Volunteer tutors provide one-on-one and small group classes for adults whose first language is not English. Everyone is welcome: visitors, temporary workers, international students, permanent residents, and Canadian citizens. Opportunities include:
- evening conversation circles at the Chilliwack and Sardis libraries
- a weekly class for high beginners
- a weekly afternoon class in a Rosetta Stone computer lab
- and more.
For further information email ESL Coordinator Janet Les at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are a native English speaker and interested in meeting newcomers, and helping them learn English and settle in Chilliwack, we welcome your inquiries. See the ESLSAP video for inspiration!
