| This is the ultimate “battle of the books.” Reading Link Challenge is a reading program for students in grades 4 and 5 that promotes the “sport of reading.” Using elements of a classic reading program, kids are encouraged to participate in a group activity, to read for retention and to participate in a public library activity that promotes the love of reading. This program is presented in collaboration with 13 different school districts. In teams of seven, kids read and become familiar with a set of six selected books. At the first challenge level, teams within a school compete with each other answering questions on characters, plots and settings. The winning team at each school goes on to the Grand Challenge level at the public library. The winners of the Grand Challenge move on to the Global Videoconference Challenge level, where they compete against winners from the Seattle, Washington region for the International Reading Plaque. Please visit www.fvrl.ca beginning in September for more information. |
